"I was dreading birth and now I'm excited. Thank you so much" Claire in Islington, pregnant again 20 years after a traumatic birth and several miscarriages

Therapies used at The Birth Trauma Centre are recognised by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) as "effective in the reduction of PTSD symptoms".

'There is good evidence from randomised controlled trials that both hypnosis and relaxation techniques can reduce anxiety...  They are also effective for panic disorders and insomnia... A systematic review has found that hypnosis enhances the effects of cognitive behavioural therapy for conditions such as phobia and anxiety.' British Medical Journal

The Birth Trauma Centre runs clinics in Central and SW London supporting women and their husbands or partners, who are suffering or have suffered a difficult or traumatic pregnancy, miscarriage or birth. We support women and their partners suffering anxiety, antenatal depression, postnatal depression or post traumatic stress.   Please contact Rosie Goode on 07806 994636

We support women who have endured a previous life trauma and for whom the very idea of becoming pregnant or giving birth is frightening.

We are dedicated to providing proven, effective therapies & support to release post natal post traumatic stress and ante natal or post natal depression in a safe and confidential environment.

  • Every year in the UK approximately 200,000 women feel traumatised by birth
  • 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage
  • Approximately 1 in 10 women suffer Ante Natal Depression
  • Approximately 10,000 women suffer Post Natal Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • 1 in 4 women develop Post Natal Depression

At the Birth Trauma Centre, we understand that the effects of a difficult or traumatic pregnancy, miscarriage, birth, or life experience stay with you and can remain indefinitely, if not treated.  You may have found sharing your experiences on various online forums helpful.  You may have found support on phone helplines, or you may have had counselling.  You may have found a birth 'debrief' helpful.  If however, you are still struggling, or found a birth defrief retraumatising, we provide effective therapy and support that will help ease the pain of difficult memories and current emotions, whether your traumatic experience occurred a few days ago or thirty years ago.

  •  If you are feeling haunted by a miscarriage or birth
  •  If you are feeling too frightened to become pregnant  (tokophobia)
  •  If you are pregnant, but fearful of birth
  •  If you feel low, anxious, depressed or manic ante natally or post natally

Please call us to discuss how we can help you. (This does not involve discussing traumatic experiences)
